AEQDB™ SOUND STYLES

Start with a sound direction. Make it your own.

Choose a classic target curve, a source-referenced listening style or a favourite measured earphone. AEQDB™ turns the direction you choose into an EQ your connected DAC can actually preview and save.

Choose a direction, then make it yours.

Sound styles make the first EQ decision easier. Instead of starting from frequency numbers, choose a reference direction, let AEQDB™ create a hardware-ready ten-band fit, then listen and refine it. A target is never a promise that two earphones will sound identical; it is a useful tonal destination.

Source-referenced sound styles

These profiles preserve the source name and attribution. AEQDB™ reads the reference response, normalises the comparison at 1 kHz, and fits only what your compatible DAC can reproduce.

Classic listening references

Harman in-ear variants, IEF Preference references, Super 22 and AEQDB™’s own listening profiles remain available in the Sound style selector. They are organised by source so you can compare directions without mistaking a source reference for an AEQDB™-owned curve.

Questions about sound styles

Can AEQDB™ make an IEM identical to another IEM?

No. EQ can move broad tonal balance toward a reference, but it cannot reproduce fit, ear-canal acoustics, driver behaviour, distortion, unit variation or spatial cues.

Why does AEQDB™ use ten bands?

The connected DAC has ten fixed bands and operating limits. AEQDB™ fits a source-referenced target within those real hardware limits so the result can be previewed and saved.

Is a target curve a rule?

No. It is a starting direction for listening. Use the measured source, then adjust by preference at a safe listening level.
